Americans don’t like to spend more on groceries. You don’t have to overspend on groceries. It is easy to do.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi is not always cheaper than Walmart, particularly where seafood and produce are concerned. Aldi has outnumber Walmart stores 2-to-1. Walmart recently dropped prices on many Great Value brand items. Aldi may not be the most affordable, but it is usually only a small difference.
Let’s break down some of the most popular and common grocery items and see what happens when the two go toe-to-toe.
The following is the basic approach I took to keeping it simple.
Aldi’s and Walmart’s prices are subject to slight variations depending on where they live. Aldi doesn’t have an online price list except Instacart. In that case, it can add up. I used the Aldi price guide as well as receipts from the previous year.
Walmart.com provided the information I required. The location and price were set to a city within the Great Lakes Region.
The only thing I did was compare popular grocery products.
In the absence of any other choice, I compare items by price per-ounce or pound.
The final note: Prices and availability are subject to change without notice in any country. This is an image of the moment and I did my best to ensure accuracy. It is not meant as an official price guide.
Aldi seems to be able to beat Walmart at a large number of produce prices.
While shoppers have complained that Aldi’s produce isn’t always up to par, the stores purportedly receive new shipments every day (and the stock gets rotated – oldest produce on the top).
*Note: Tyson was the only brand that had comparable pork loin at Walmart.
Aldi is a better choice than Walmart for meat prices, except seafood.
*Note: Walmart only carries Thomas brand bagel thins.
Because Walmart does not carry their own bagel thins brand, I used the Thomas brand to substitute. Walmart doesn’t compare as favorably to their own bagel thins, which would be even better if they did.
Aldi’s bread is the winner in every category except three.
Aldi’s flavor-infused ice cream can be compared to Walmart’s because Walmart doesn’t make it.
Aldi can save you up to two dollars on this product. They are extremely popular.
Walmart continues to be competitive in the category of pasta and grains. Aldi is even better when it comes instant white rice.
That said, if you eat a lot of rice and you have a rice cooker, the bag of Jasmine rice from Aldi is your best bet to save money over the long run.
Walmart is a great place to save if your family loves Triscuit knockoffs and chips. Aldi wins in all other snacks categories.
Walmart has a lower price than Aldi on raw honey. But that isn’t surprising when you consider Aldi was a post-WWII grocery store with basic goods for any country recovering from a natural disaster.
Aldi makes it easy to get condiments, oils and other supplies at a very affordable price.
Aldi offers a low price for essentials if you’re a baker.
The best-selling item in the box, with a 50c price tag of baking soda, is 32cs less than Walmart’s already pocket-friendly pricing.
It’s important to bear in mind that dairy prices can fluctuate pretty frequently, but Aldi continuously beats Walmart – except for a one-cent difference on butter.
To learn more about Aldi you can visit our other posts. These include Aldi vs Lidl; when Aldi restocks; Aldi vs Lidl; Trader Joe’s if Aldi is a Trader Joe’s owner, as well as how to shop Aldi.
Aldi is not always cheaper than Walmart, but that shouldn’t discourage shoppers. Aldi will not charge you more per item if you aren’t cooking a meal with seafood, but you won’t notice a significant difference in the long-term.
Walmart stays competitive, though, with their Great Value store brand, and if you also need non-grocery items – office supplies, clothes, video games – you won’t do too badly to just make the one stop at your local Walmart Supercenter.
Aldi’s is Cheaper than Walmart
Aldi and Walmart have store brands that cost less than brand names, while Aldi’s is more affordable. The package from Walmart does include five more bags than Aldi, but the cost per bag is still the deciding factor.Nov 24, 2021
Aldi really is that much more expensive?
Although everything in the store seems cheap, it is actually quite expensive. Reader’s Digest reveals that there are a lot of Aldi products which tend to be more expensive. Aldi stocks a lot of brands, so it’s not surprising that prices will go up.
Does Walmart Price Match Aldi?
One bonus I will mention about Walmart: They will price match competitor ads. If you bring your Aldi ad to Walmart, they will price match the ad. Oct 11, 2020
Are Aldi Prices Going Up?
These rates have risen sharply since the pandemic. Take this as an example: Prices were thought to have been stable for at least four years before the pandemic and are now 3.7% higher in 2020 than they were in 2019. Dec 4, 2021
