USPS has been issuing stamps for decades. If a stamp has been around for that many years, you might be curious if it has an expiration date.
So if your desk is cluttered with stamps, don’t worry! You can read on to discover when USPS stamps end.
How do I know if my USPS Stamps are still valid?
It takes just a glance to find out if your USPS stamps still work.
If your stamps have the word “Forever” printed somewhere, then feel free to stick one on an envelope and put your letter in the mail (as long as it weighs less than one ounce! ).
USPS considers Forever Stamps “non-denominated” postage. These stamps have no monetary value, so you don’t know what they are worth.
Forever stamps have a value that changes with the value first-class mail. In other words, a Forever Stamp will forever be worth the current value of first-class postage.
If you buy Forever Stamps today and postage goes up tomorrow, your stamps will reflect the current value of first-class postage, even though you bought them at a lower price.
USPS sells Forever Stamps as well as stamps with a number and the cent symbol (C/). They come in denominations such as 1C/, 2C/, 3C/, 5C/ and 10C/.
You can use these stamps whenever you wish. You will need to verify the price of your postage in order to determine which stamps are available.
You can add as many cent stamps you need once you have an idea of the cost of postage.
You should also keep in mind that stamps of monetary worth may be printed with one year.
This tells you the year USPS adopted your stamp. It doesn’t have anything to do with expiration dates. Just like Forever Stamps, these stamps don’t expire.
Is it possible to reuse old USPS stamps
You can, in most cases. If the USPS is able to validate stamps, they will still work.
A stamp is considered legitimate if it is clean and adheres to the envelope.
USPS could reject your stamp if you send it in damaged condition. The following are reasons why stamps may be refused:
It has lost its adhesiveness. The USPS rejects stamps that have been covered in tape or glue.
If you have any doubts about some old stamps floating around in your junk drawer, bring them into USPS and have a mail clerk make the final decision.
What is the Lifespan of USPS Forever Stamps?
The USPS Forever Stamps can be used forever, just like their name.
Forever Stamps have no fixed value. This is in contrast to stamps from the past, which were marked with a dollar value. Instead, they change in value according to the USPS’s postage rate.
When you purchase a Forever Stamp, you’ll pay the current rate for first-class postage.
Your Forever Stamp is valid for the value of first class postage if it’s not used within five years.
Let us take an example and explain things better. Forever Stamps came out in 2007, which was the year that first-class mail cost $0.41.
At the moment, it was only $0.58. Forever Stamps can be purchased from 2007 to 2020 for $0.58.
Are Global Forever(r), Stamps Expiring?
USPS Global Forever(r), just like the domestic Forever Stamps does not expire.
Global Forever(r) stamps are part of the USPS’ First-Class Mail International(r) (FCMI) service. You can send them to anywhere in the world, from Australia to Great Britain to Canada.
You can send 1oz postal mail or postcards anywhere on the planet with one Global Forever(r); stamp.
Your stamps are valid even if the postage is higher and will be ready to deliver your mail wherever it’s needed.
What happens to USPS shipping labels?
USPS shipping tags have an expiration period, just like stamps. The USPS shipping label “expires” technically 28 days after purchase.
The official cutoff day is 28 days, however it’s not a strict rule. In general, USPS will give you a 2 to 3 day grace period when using shipping labels.
However, every Post Office can exercise its own discretion.
If the mail clerk at your Post Office refuses labels that you believe are still within an acceptable range, you can ask to speak with the Postmaster.
Don’t be alarmed if they don’t budge! USPS doesn’t scan labels into their system when you purchase them.
This means that the tracking numbers do not enter their systems. You can always request a refund from your online shipping software and use the refund to buy a new label.

USPS stamps do not expire. This includes both denominational stamps, Forever Stamps and Global Forever(r) stamps. Your stamps should be safe to use as long you keep them clean and free from damage.
USPS postal stamps cannot expire but USPS shipping label technically can. You can use shipping labels for up to 28 days starting from the date you purchased them. However, your local Post Office may allow you to have some leeway.
