Pto Policy Walmart In 2022 (All You Need To Know)
Walmart’s Paid time off (PTO), Policy may not be familiar to you as a Walmart new employee. Walmart associates have a much more generous PTO policy than most retailers.
What Is the PTO Policy for Walmart In 2022?
Walmart offers paid time off (PTO). This policy allows employees who are eligible to leave work for family emergency, health, or family matters. It is possible to take PTO at intervals of 15 minutes. If there are enough associates available, the cap will not apply. Walmart may deny PTO, so it’s important to request PTO as quickly as possible.
What Are the differences between Protected and Regular PTO at Walmart
Walmart is committed to helping associates maintain a good work-life balance. They offer both Regular and Protected Paid Time Off (PTO).
Assistants can take advantage of regular PTO so they have time to see their loved ones, attend to medical matters, and relax over the holidays.
Similarly, Protected Time Off has you covered if you have a family or health emergency that pops up.
If you are in an emergency situation, it is easy to worry about the impact on your job. However, Walmart’s Protected Time Off provides security for associates who need to temporarily take leave without fear of losing their jobs.
PTO policies protect the needs of both the employee and Walmart by giving associates a degree of flexibility in the scheduling while maintaining a staffed position.
You can find additional information for employees about PTO, Protected Paid Leave Off and other benefits here.
In situations where an associate or a family member they care for has a chronic illness or long-term medical condition, rather than use PTO hours, associates are encouraged to apply for an approved Leave of Absence (LOA).
Associates needing additional information on LOA policy can review the videos on MySedgwick or contact a People Person at 1-800-492-5678.

Temporary or seasonal employees may be eligible for PTO but they cannot earn regular PTO.
How is Walmart PTO Calculated
At Walmart, accrued PTO hours are based on whether an associate is hourly or salary, the position they hold, and the length of time they have been employed by the company.
Walmart employees who have worked three years at the company may receive PTO at one hour for each 11.8 hours they work.
Employers who have worked for Walmart over 20 years could be eligible to receive PTO. The rate is 1 hour per 6.8-hour worked.

How do I lose my accrued hours of PTO at the end Of Each Year?
After the plan year ends, up to 80 hours and 48 hours respectively of PTO will be transferred.
Associate with PTO hours greater than this amount will see the balance “cashed in” and be paid their first paycheck of February.
This money can be taxed, so cash out payments are subject to the same taxes that regular hourly wages.
How do I request PTO from Walmart?
To request a PTO you will need to visit the Global Time & Attendance portal (GTAP).
Employees must notify management as soon as they are aware that they will need to request time off to ensure that there will be the availability of replacement staff.
Because this step is automatic, the GTAP software will determine which type of PTO you need.
To illustrate, in the event that you become sick during your employment, all Protected Personal Time Off (PTO) will be utilized first.
Due to the unpredictable nature and severity of sicknesses, PTO can be requested for any illness that causes you to miss work. However, you must have enough Protected PTO in order to make up the missed time.
Any other reason an associate needs PTO for, including the wait time for short-term disability to begin, will be treated as Regular PTO and an unprotected absence.
How Much Consecutive PTO Can Walmart Associates Use?
Associates can begin requests for PTO within 15 minutes.
As long as there is enough PTO available, there’s no restriction on how many consecutive day requests can be made.
What happens when I have more time to spare?
If you are a full-time Walmart associate, you are eligible to use short-term disability benefits to extend your paid time off if the absence is due to your serious medical condition.
LOAs can also be obtained in circumstances where short-term impairment cannot be utilized, such as when a person is sick or has a dependent.
Can Walmart Deny PTO?
Walmart requires associates to request PTO immediately they realize that an absence is necessary. If the associate does not have enough available PTO hours, then the request can be denied.

Your years of service for PTO are based on the work anniversary you’ll reach during the plan year that begins each Feb. 1, not your current tenure, so you can ‘level up’ a bit early. You can start using the PTO you earn beginning on your 90th day with Walmart, and can use PTO as soon as you earn it.
