Best Leaf Blower

The Most Powerful Cordless Blower

We were impressed by the Ego’s almost 30-minute run-time. This blower is simple to operate, provides a great deal of power, and has an excellent airstream. However, it weighs more than our corded picks, and is a bit more expensive.

Amazon, $299 Lowe’s. If your work requires you to reach beyond the reach of a 50 or 100 foot extension cord, the Ego LB6504 Battery-Powered Power+ 650 CFM Blower is the right choice. This blower has a 27-minute run time on high. It is not as powerful, however. However, the Ego L5604 does not offer the same leaf-blasting power that corded models. In our tests, the more concentrated airstream did a better job at getting beneath dense wet leaves. And the turbo button is able to produce an extra surge of power. But it drains battery power faster. Cost and weight are the down sides. This cordless handheld weighs approximately 10 pounds more than either the Toro’s nor Worx and comes in at about $300. However, the Ego offers the greatest combination of power and portability. If you want to increase your Ego collection, such as lawn mowers and string trimmers, it is an excellent investment. This is an upgrade to the Ego LB5804 Energy+ 580 CFM Blawer, which we previously recommended.

A quiet web browser with excellent ergonomics

Although this cordless Ryobi is not as powerful and run-time efficient as the Ego LB6504, it has a quieter motor and a more ergonomic handle.

Home Depot $199 * At the time of publication, it was $200

The Ryobi 40470VNM40V 550 CFM Brushless jet fan blower is a good choice if you are looking for a cordless leaf-blower, but it’s not available or too costly. Although it doesn’t have as much power and runtime as the Ego, this leaf blower is still very effective in dry environments. It’s quiet for a cordless blower and has a great adjustable handle. This is a plus because it is heavier. While the controls aren’t as refined as Ego’s, its runtime is almost twenty minutes longer than Ego. Ryobi’s single-battery model cost $200 at our time, which is very affordable compared to other cordless blowers. Ryobi’s lawn tool system is sturdy but less polished than Ego’s. This battery won’t work with Ryobi’s drills, or other power tools.

Lightweight, long run time

While the Worx WG584 cordless isn’t as powerful as other options, it has a lightweight design and a very long running time.

$183* Amazon.com $197 Lowe’s

*The original price of the book was $210.

What is better? Electric or gas leaf blowers

You should consider speed, convenience, cost, etc. when you weigh electric vs. gas.

The handheld gas or battery blowers both make fast work of leaves. They are also the most efficient way to clean a large yard. The best corded-electric blowers are powerful enough for many big jobs, though you’ll have to stay within 100 feet of a power outlet. Most outdoor extension cords are at this length. Although gas handheld leaf blowers can be used anywhere, they are heavier and more expensive than corded electrics. They also make noise and cause more damage. Also, they require maintenance and fueling. Although they offer more power than traditional leaf blowers with gasoline engines, cordless electrics, also known by battery-powered leafblowers, have an 8-30 minute run time.

A vacuum is also a useful feature in handheld blowers. This allows you to collect leaves and stragglers as well. But their relatively small tubes limit how much you can vacuum at once, making them best for really small yards, where you can bag up the mulched leaves.

Handheld blowers tend to be less expensive than backpack blowers. However, backpack blowers offer greater power and can move more weight from the arms down to your back and shoulders. Although backpacks weigh 22 pounds, they can feel lighter than handheld blowers that are 10 pounds. These backpacks are great for big lawns. They can either be powered by a standard gas-powered backpack or an electric-powered battery model. Although battery technology is still relatively new, they have performed well in field tests.

You have lots of trees and an affluent property. The largest power pack is found in wheeled blowers. Also, they are the most expensive, require the least storage space, are hard to drive and manage, and have the highest price tag. You’ll find them best suited for big, flat areas that border the forest. It’s difficult to push them on hills. If you live near neighbors it is easy for leaves to blow into your neighbor’s yard.

You can buy 7 leaf blowers for fall 2021

Leaf blowers have many uses, and they are not limited to fall. Experts offer their advice on how to shop for one.

The most common types of leaf blowers are handheld battery-powered, corded electric and gas-powered units. Bogdanhoda / Getty Images Mili Godio Select is editorially independent. Many people enjoy fall foliage, but they don’t want to see all the leaves in their yards. Although it may seem appealing to rake the leaves in a pile, this can prove tedious and time-consuming. People rely instead on leaf blowers to clean up their yards and not overexert themselves.

Thumbtack homeowner David Steckel believes that a leaf blower should be used to clean up fallen leaves, dust and debris. A leaf blower is a great tool to clean up debris and leaves from your walkways or porch, and also for cleaning out your garage after finishing a project. This gardening tool can be used to clean up grass clippings left over from mowing the lawn or for cleaning debris off driveways and sidewalks.

You have many options when it comes to leaf blowers. Which one is right for you will vary depending on what you intend to do with them. Our lawncare and landscaping professionals have provided their recommendations and suggestions to help you decide what factors you need to consider before buying a leaf blower.

Some things to think about when looking for a leaf blower

Choose The Right Type Of Leaf Blower For You

The gas-powered leaf blower/vacs include everything you need to make it a mulching machine. Most of the best blowers have a metal impeller, which can shred leaves and twigs. An estimate of the power of a blower can be expressed as mph (miles per hour) and cubic feet per second (cfm). Cfm, which is an accurate representation of how much work the machine can perform, gives a more precise picture. Manufacturers list both measurements.

Gas engines require more maintenance than electric blower-vacs. You can convert the blower-vacs in this review from vacuuming to blowing just by flipping a switch. Each conversion requires that the gas-powered versions be fitted with new parts.

Cordless blowers move leaves with less noise than gas blowers, have no emissions, and aren’t tethered to a cord. They also have less power, so they’re best for a quick “sweep” to clean up after mowing.

Bag blowers give you the same power as gas, but without having to strain your arm like with a handheld blower. You can use backpacks for hours without feeling any pain; hand-held blowers get sore after about 45 minutes.

From 50 feet, the decibel (dB), readings of all blowers were measured. While this distance may be too far for neighbours, it is sufficient for those who use these machines.

Best Leaf Blower

The best backpack leaf blowers

We tested a range to find the blasters most capable of clearing the yard this fall.

A backpack leaf blower can be one of your best options to combat the year-round fall foliage. They are much more powerful and larger than the tools you have at your disposal. So if you favor that leaf-moving oomph with a bit of convenience, and are willing to put up with the tradeoffs we flag below, think about investing in a backpack blower. We’ve tested many in preparation for fall yard work, so read on for our insights, findings, and recommendations.

Consider the following: They make a lot of noise due to the motor and air movement. However, they can accomplish the task in fractions of the time it takes to move the leaves using a rake and a strong hand-held leaf blower.

Backpack leaf blowers make leaf clearing less tiring because, aside from speeding up the process, they take the load off your arm and wrist. You also gain efficiency because you can more easily stop blowing leaves, drop the blower tube from your hand without having to find a place to set it down, and move a gas grill or some yard furniture out of the way before resuming. On the other hand, these are bulkier machines and can take up more space in your garage or shed.

Clearing leaves is easier with more power. On the other hand, bigger engines or motors are required, as well as batteries and fans. That means weight. At 30 pounds, our largest blowers can reach that weight. You may find that this is too much weight depending on your ability, age, and interests. If you are able to move with more ease and power, a lighter blower might be a better choice. Noting that more powerful blowers produce more resistance than less powerful blowers, it is important to remember. You may find it tiring to fight the recoil.

Think about how heavy you are and how often you use backpack blowers. Big jobs require larger and more powerful machines. However, it’s not a good idea to get a machine with fewer capabilities than what’s needed for the job. Is it you or your family working alone? Are you going to supplement your backpack with a handheld blower? Or a leaf-rake? Do you think a mower or bagger should be part of your leaf-clearing equipment? The combination of several methods, for the majority of people, will be more efficient and economical. Take advantage of our data, as well as your experience in the past, to help you make an informed decision.

Our Tests: We tested backpack leaf blowers powered by both large and small batteries. We tested gas and battery powered backpacks. Then, it was time to blow leaves, sawdust, or yard debris.

Continuous run times were measured on battery-powered machines. Machines had to be set at maximum power. It was difficult to accurately measure air speed. To do that, we purchased an MGL Avionics Stratomaster Vega air speed indicator (anemometer) for an airplane, powered it with a 12-volt DC power source, and built our own testing apparatus, gauging the air speed six inches from the tip of the blower tube. The sound level was also recorded at 75 feet and the operator’s location. To help us visualize the air stream emitted from the blower, we used a sawdust erosion test. We taped off a large section of pavement and covered it with a thin layer of sawdust, then blew the leaf blowers horizontally across it, leaving an impression of the shape of the air stream. The timing of the time it took for us to pull leaves out of a rectangle, and in the case where our biggest blowers were used, whether or not they could lift a brick off pavement. These tests give us an idea about how concentrated the air stream was.

Not only did we record data but also looked at ergonomics such as handles, visibility of gas tanks and adjustability of straps. Here’s the list of eight leaf blowers who came in first.

What are the Different Types of Leaf Blowers Available?

There are three types of leaf blowers: electric, battery-powered and gas powered.

To get electric leaf blowers’ power, they use long extension cables. Although they can seem awkward when it comes down to mobility they are generally lighter and more quiet than traditional gas models. They also produce less harmful emissions than cordless models.

The battery-powered cordless leaf blower: It’s powered from a rechargeable lithium battery and has all the benefits of an electric leafblower, but without the need for an extension cord.

Gas-powered leaves blowers are the best choice if you need to get rid of all those unwanted leaves. However, the great power you get comes at a cost: more noise, heavier weight, and greater pollution of air due to burning fuel or gas. Edmunds’ 2011 testing found that commercial leaf blowers emit more pollutants than many car models. Yikes!

If you’re ready to fight those fallen leaves, we have compiled a list of top-rated leaf blowers to help keep your yard looking autumnal.
