Hot Laminating vs Cold Laminating

Hot laminating machines are standard pouch laminators, meaning they use heat to melt the glue to seal documents on thermal pouch films. On all pouch laminators, hot laminating should come as standard. Cold laminating does not require heat, but a setting for cold lamination is provided for pouch laminators.

Pouch Laminating Thickness

It is necessary to know the minimum and maximum film thickness the system may seal while buying a pouch laminator. Choosing a pouch laminator that is not consistent with the film thickness of your pouch would always result in jams and lamination of low consistency. The most popular pouch laminators will laminate anywhere from 3 mil to 5 mil, often used in offices and homes. Laminators with better quality pouches will laminate upwards from 7 mil to 10 mil. Laminating mounting boards are worthy of professional grade pouch laminators.

Reverse and Jam Release

A consumer can often find a need to interrupt the laminating operation, sometimes because the paper is stuck or the lamination tends to run sideways, allowing wrinkling and folding to occur. Reverse features would enable the laminator to operate backwards, enabling the laminating mechanism to be reset by the consumer. Jam release would keep the rollers open, release the pressure on the document and enable the lamination to be taken out and the document retrieved by the recipient.

Pouch Laminator Width

A laminator’s entry width defines how wide a laminator will laminate from a paper. 9″ wide, ideal for letter sized documents such as resumes, reports, photos, and copier paper. 4″ laminators are also available. Most generally, wider diameter laminators come with either 12″ laminators, 13″ laminators, and 17″ laminators. These larger format laminators are suitable for laminating signs, legal size documents, and menu size.

Number of Rollers

Usually, pouch laminators come with 2 rollers, 4 rollers, or six roller units. Placing a paper between the pouch film is the first phase of pouch laminating. And the paper is sent via a laminator in between the two laminating boards. The rollers would turn, push and roll over the paper in the laminator and secure the film on and around the document.
